Day 9:
Another day I got to sleep in! That’s always a good start to
the day. I took my time getting ready, as I didn’t have much planned for the
day until dinner around 6. Four of us found a little Italian restaurant for
lunch, which was perfect since we had all been craving pasta that week. None of
us spoke Spanish particularly well so it was a little difficult to figure out
what we wanted to eat. It all turned out pretty good though, and was an
enjoyable experience. I got some pasta with olive oil and garlic and there were
some spices that gave it a nice kick. Then we went back to the hotel to relax
and save some energy for our big dinner tonight. We all got semi-dressed up and
walked to the restaurant Tierra del Fuego. The restaurant was a steakhouse and
because it was Mother’s Day, there was not much of a crowd. We got our own
table on the top floor and luckily one of the waiters spoke great English.
Menus were brought to us and we were told to choose and entrée and side;
appetizers were already ordered. I chose one of the steaks on the menu with a
side of mashed potatoes. Our appetizers arrived and it was a seafood medley
that featured shrimp, crabmeat, a few oysters, seviche, and octopus. I opted
for the crab and shrimp to start and eventually a few of us ventured into the
octopus believe it or not. I was pleasantly surprised that it tasted very much
like tuna. Then the main courses arrived and my steak and potatoes were
phenomenal. It was great to have such a filling meal since during the week we were
often rushed to find a meal or picked at the cafeteria food. Dessert came later
and I fell in love with the vanilla custard as well as the chocolate lava cake.
Needless to say, it was a great night. Once we got back to the hotel, we got
into our groups and perfected the presentations we were going to give on
Monday. We decided not to go out, seeing as it was a Sunday night, so a bunch
of us hung out in our usual room and watched a few movies.
