Day 4

Day 4:

The first thing we did today was took a bus to Santiago to visit the Chilean Stock Exchange and various other sights in the city. At the stock exchange, we sat through a brief presentation which discussed how the exchanged worked and then we visited the trading room and took some pictures. I thought the exchange was really cool because it was so different from the New York Stock Exchange in that the trading room wasn’t really used in Chile; most of the trades are done online. After the stock exchange, we walked to the plaza and visited the most significant Catholic church in the country. I wasn’t expecting it to be so spacious inside and it was really beautiful. After the church, we went to the National History Museum of Chile. The museum was kind of small, but it had a lot of artifacts. It also helped me test my Spanish knowledge since all of the signs and descriptions were in Spanish. Our next stop was the Presidential Palace. We were able to take a tour of some parts of the building and our tour guide gave us lots of insight to what goes on there. I found this very interesting because we did have to go through security, but it was much less than any security in the United States. Our last stop in Santiago was the incline up a mountain that gave us a view of the entire city. It was amazing to see all the metropolitan buildings with the mountains surrounding them. I also noticed the pollution of the city, which deterred from the experience a bit. Nevertheless, it was still awesome. We spent some time up there just relaxing and we found a stray kitten, which was so cute. Once our time there ended, we headed back to the hotel. A bunch of us headed to the mall to try and find some adapters but since it was a little on the late side, all the stores were closing and we had to plan a return trip for the next day. We were all starving so we found a small restaurant that could seat all eleven of us. There weren’t that many people there and we may have been pretty loud but we had a great time, even though our food took a while. The rest of the night most of us were trying to work on our blogs but ended up just staying up late and socializing. Sleep has definitely been scarce on this trip, but there’s so much to do that it's worth it
